About Us
Previous Shows
80’s On The Edge has been together for quite a while now (since around 2011), with a few differences in lineup.
Over that time we’ve played from Arnhem Land and Darwin, to Mackay and Townsville in North QLD, to Perth, WA, Tasmania, Adelaide, regional Vic and NSW as well as inner Melbourne clubs and pubs.
We’ve played at lots of private functions: birthdays (21-64), weddings, Christmas work functions, any-excuse-for-a-party parties ...
Basically, the music suits pretty much every age group, it’s fun, everyone knows the words. And the set list is big enough that we can be super flexible, from laid back vibe to full on dance.
Testimonials
We collect feedback from gigs - it’s great to hear from people and we are always open to new ideas, ways to improve etc ... most of it is along the lines of “great band”, “awesome night”, “thanks for the great songs” ... and so on. Most complaints we have are to do with having sore feet from dancing all night.
Production Information
80’s On The Edge supplies its own production most of the time.
The aim is to consistently produce an exceptionally high quality standard of sound and lighting that enhances the audience experience and highlights the band’s best qualities, ie high energy rock performances and massive vocal harmonies. It is all designed to use technology to ensure maximum consistency, minimum personnel and hassle (and cost!) - so the lighting is all run off MIDI, the mix is all set into the desk, the stage looks very minimalist - no foldback wedges or huge amps.
Catering for most shows up to about 300 pax the band has a NEXO PS10 system with an extra powered sub running a stereo mix from a digital desk (on-stage). The band members all use IEM (in ear monitoring). The kit is triggered apart from hats and cymbals. So it’s always the same, and no soundchecking necessary (apart from setup / room checks). This makes the FOH sound extremely easy and consistent.
Our normal lighting setup is some fresnel and LED frontwashes and coloured lights with dichroic and iLed back wash scenes, also strobe and punter blinder effects. We normally run an effects light onto the dancefloor to create colour and movement for the audience / dancers.
Bud is our MIDI lighting designer - if you ever saw a White Man Can’t Reggae show you’ll understand how dynamic and live this setup is, and it’s always spot on with the music (!).
Bigger shows:
We have a PS15 NEXO system with double subs, which adds serious oomph. A sound engineer once said ‘this system has the best drum sound I’ve ever heard’ , so that about nails it. The PS15s seamlessly amplify the sound while keeping the same control and great audio characteristics, and we can easily add more lights.
Production supplied:
Seamless operation when foh and lighting is provided, with two lines (L/R) to the main, tuned foh system...and no or, if appropriate, only minimal midi lighting for 'special effects' that's best driven by the laptop.
